Announed on Feb 19, 2003 in Cannes, SX1 from Siemens is just being launched in several countries. SX1 is the first Series 60 phone from Siemens.
Based on the Symbian OS 6.1 and Series 60 user interface like the 7650 and 3650 from Nokia, the device incorporates two useful additions: MP3 player and FM radio. The user interface has been redesigned to give the phone a unique look and feel.
The SX1 has strips of keys built in to each side of the phone, instead of an ordinary keypad, to give it a sleek shape. This design innovation also shifts the large, 65 thousand color high-resolution (176x220 pixels) screen into the center of the device without compromising overall size as the SX1 only weighs 116 grams (109 x 65 x 19 mm, 110 ccm).
The SX1 is a camera phone: it incorporates a VGA (640x480, 24-bit) digital camera for capturing still shots and movies, providing 4x digital zoom function.
Siemens SX1 supports Bluetooth and Infrared connectivity, GPRS (class 10, 2+4) and class 2 Fax. Its 1000 mAh Lithium-Ion battery provides up to 200 hours of standby and 2 hours of talk time. SX1 is a tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) world phone. The device supports multimedia messaging (MMS) and features a built-in loudspeaker. User storage space can be extended using multimedia memory cards (MMC). Just like any other Series 60 phone, the SX1 is a fully open platform, which means that users can take advantage of hundreds of third party applications as well as MIDP 1.0 compliant midlets.
Siemens SX1 offers all typical Series 60 applications like PIM, voice recorder, picture album, WAP/xHTML browser etc. and supports voice dialling and calling party pictures. Unlike Nokia phones, Siemens SX1 supports cable connectivity via USB.
