<u>Quote from the first post:</u> Hi all,

Well my N97 arrived from Nokia it's a White version Made In Finland not that makes any real difference IMO but it's just what it is. I've waited untill i updated the firmware today as felt that was the right and fair thing to do especially as i got off to false a start. This was entirely due to the Ovi Suite 1.1 included in the box i wont dwell on this to much other than to say it took 2hr 25 mins to download and install the 9 parts i had selected and i wasn't happy or impressed to say the least. It actually got much worse when i actually tried to use it for anything other than syncing Outlook Contacts and Calendar it just didn't work. Anyway enough of that my simple advice is

DO NOT USE Ovi Suite 1.1 if you value your sanity at all.

Instead i went to the Nokia support site and downloaded Nokia PC Suite 7.1 which installed perfectly and works perfectly as you would expect.

Now onto the N97 well i have to say it comes in a much smaller box then previous phones have...

			<link>http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39886</link>
			<description>

<u>Quote from the first post:</u> Is it possibly to use the GPS receiver in my 5800 to power software on a tablet PC? Either via USB or BT is fine. Alternatively, or in addition, what about an E75? Or should that be a question for the v3 forum?

Specifically, I want the advantages of A-GPS, but none of the standalone dongles have that ability.

Thanks!...

<u>Quote from the first post:</u> Nokia Beta Labs has released Ovi Contacts for touch devices. From the related blog post:Finally, Ovi Contacts support for Touch
It has taken so very long time for us to enable support for S60 5th Edition products that it is unfair to anybody with the beautiful 5800 XpressMusic in their pocket. Now, as the second touch device, N97 is available in some parts of the world, we're finally able to make the Ovi Contacts available for these products. The app contains the same features, as the 3rd Edition variants, but now obviously with Touch support.

In N97, however, there is something interesting to tell about. That is, ability to integrate your instant messaging friends with the contact cards in your traditional contact list. By doing this, you can see the presence status of your friends in the main phonebook tab too.

Here's how you can do it too:

Select the contact you want to link from the Ovi Contacts tab
Choose either create new or update existing (depending on if you have t...

This year's Samsung IQ competition is now open with full details and support published to help you develop a Samsung Mobile Widget for the Samsung Omnia i8910 HD. There is a lot of excitement surrounding this device, particularly at the Symbian Foundation.

The best submission this year will take out a and pound;15,000 first prize, while second and third place winners will receive and pound;8,000 and and pound;5,000 respectively. All winners will also have the opportunity to have their entry distributed through Samsung's MORE WIDGETS service. This feature is already included on the i8910 HD, but you'll soon be seeing it on a lot more Samsung handsets in the marketplace.

Why Samsung Mobile Widgets? Samsung IQ's purpose this year is to introduce Samsung Mobile Widgets and get you thinking about the opportunities they present to developers. You can find out more about Samsung Mobile Widgets from the Samsung IQ 2009 resources page in the...

			<title>N97 firmware update - potential brick situation! (10 replies)</title>

			<description>

<u>Quote from the first post:</u> Hi all,

Posting this for everyone's information rather than for advice, but obviously if anyone has any ideas, they'd be much appreciated.

Just received my N97 on Vodafone (with Vodafone branded firmware) and to be honest, it doesn't function very well, crashes all over the place, internet doesn't always connect, backlight doesn't work etc. etc. Tried the firmware update to v11.x, but - as always - Vodafone is behind the generic release schedule.

Did some googling on changing the device's product code so I could effectively debrand the device and get the latest firmware (I've carried out this procedure with my previous two N95s successfully) and found some valid product codes on this website: http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Nokia-N97-Debranding-Guide_W0QQugidZ10000000012152314

So, with product code changed, I ran the Nokia software updater and - hey presto - it downloaded me a generic firmware and successfully flashed it across. Happy days.

Unfortunately when I turned my N97 b...

			<title>Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60 (10 replies)</title>
			<link>http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39870</link>
			<description>

<u>Quote from the first post:</u> Nokia Beta Labs has released Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60, see blog post. Excerpt:Introducing Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60
Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60 (JRT 2.0) is a totally re-written Java mobile execution environment for Nokia S60 devices. It gives you several usability and performance improvements, including:

One-click application installation
Improved application launch user experience
Improved execution performance
These improvements will make it much more fun for you to enjoy the thousands of games and apps available in Ovi Store and elsewhere.

In addition, we have made major changes under the hood. From now on, Java Runtime will be developed and released independent from S60 releases. This means that you will always get the latest version directly to your phone, using the built-in Nokia S60 Software Update functionality.

Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 beta is compatible with S60 5th Edition, tested with following devices:

Had the N97 a few days now and still getting to know it. Generally very happy with it. Anyway I am looking for a free video conversion software which will convert avi files etc to mpeg4 and must fit nicely on the N97 display so I can convert films to nice quality. Any suggestions? Settings for the software would also be nice if anybody has taken the time to do this.

			<title>RMR Programs updated to 5th Edition (0 replies)</title>
			<link>http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39855</link>
			<description>

<u>Quote from the first post:</u> RMRBank, RMRCar, RMRFuel and RMRExpenses have all been updated to V1.04 to reflect support for 5th Edition, specifically the touch screen.

The bad news is that they still only take up half the screen, although I will continue to 'nag' Styletap to update their emulator to allow flexible screen size. And they look very old-fashioned, being basically Palm versions and not native S60.

The good news is that having been originally written for the Palm, they actually suit the touch screen a lot better than the non-touch devices. I am running them on a N5800 and they are surprisingly usable. (Note that Styletap could not intercept the 'automatic' display of the virtual keyboard so have provided a separate icon instead)

Any comments welcome.
