The problem I'm having recently (don't know when it actually started or why) is that camera app places photos in DCIM and image viewer default folder is .camera. In theory, they should be the same but they are not. I actually have both of them. I can see them in file manager, in file box, in terminal and on my ubuntu machine.
I tried to delete both of them but then system creates .camera and camera app creates DCIM. I can se the photos in file manager but annoying thing is that I always have to change folder in photo viewer or manually move photos from DCIM to .camera.
I googled a cople guys with the same problem but no one offered any solution or at least idea what's causing this.

Hmmm.... strange. I don't have any .camera folder, and all images are stored in DCIM.

I've checked Camera config files in /var/lib/gconf/apps/camera, but the only setting is whether to use the internal memory or memory card, without any specific folder, so it must be specified somewhere else. Or maybe your gconf files contain some folder setting...? Please check there. If not, I'll try to look for other possible config file that may cause this.

I don't know. I'm not so good with tis stuff but but it seems all OK in config files. And they seem to bi updated each time I use the camera.
Maybe it's related to Bless or HDR? I've been trying them at some point but uninstall them eventually. Maybe they left some settings behind? Any way to check that out and remove them via xterm?

I have all of them installed and they do not conflict in any way with the standard Camera application, which still saves its pictures in DCIM...

Have you tried resetting the Tracker database? Maybe this way the image viewer will start showing your images again? To do this, in X Terminal type:

tracker-processes -r

Yes, I tried restarting tracker. But nothing. And I don't have problems with tracker. It picks up images in both folder.

Interesting that you see the .camera folder in File Manager. Did you do domething special to get that? My File manager doesn't show things that start with a dot.

No, it's not like that. I don't see foders with dot in file manager like .camera .images .sounds .videos.......................
They are all interpreted correctly in file manager.
.documents = Documents
.videos= Video clips
.images= Images

And .camera is Camera. Which is OK if I understand the system.
But when I connect my phone in mass storage mode .camera should be DCIM on my ubuntu box and I should see the photos. But it's not like that.
I see DCIM folder but it's not the .camera one. It's just DCIM folder which I can see in file manager also. But when I press ctrl+h then I can see all hidden folders including .camera. With some old photos in it.
And if I take some photo it goes to DCIM folder and I can find that photo in DCIM on my ubuntu machine and in file manager. Nothing goes to .camera.
So in order to see my photos in photo viewer as soon as I open it I have to manually copy photos from DCIM to .camera because for photo viewer defaul camera folder is .camera. Once upon a time it was like that but not any more. Don't know when or what changed that. And it's not such a big problem, I'm not thinking about reflash but I asked because maybe someone knows something so I might learn something new in the process of solving this issue.

have you tried playing around with the settings of the image viewer?

there is an option "filter by folder" (or something like that, my translation of the German version) which lets you choose between showing all indexed pictures, just those from standard camera folder, or a user-defined folder.

If setting this to "All" and then back to "Standard Camera folder" does not change anything, you could just specify the "DCIM" folder as your user defined folder.

Well, yes. But since someone very smart at NOKIA R&D department decided that inability to set user desired folder as default is a feature and not a bug (the same goes for the location of photos if you have SD card inserted) but rather always start with predefined folder. Now I have two options:
a) manually transfer photos from DCIM to .camera if I want to see them in photo viewer without changing the folder
or b) after opening photo viewer I have to filter images by folder
