Guys, please take a look at Oculo - a new home screen widget for the N900. Using it, you can select any website or even any part of it (the widget can be freely resized and moved) and place it on your home screen and have it automatically updated.

IMHO one of the best and most useful home screen widgets ever created for the N900...

The purpose... well, the same as why you use RSS feeds or frequently visit some web pages - to regularly get information. But this widget is better than RSS reader because it lets you use web pages directly, including the content that is not available via RSS (and not just text content, but also images), and it simply shows the actual web page as it is, and not some kind of simplified RSS feed. And if you need to see just some part of a web page then it lets you trim/crop it and only shows that selected area. And that's directly on the desktop, and automatically refreshed... I guess there are lots of possible uses...

hmm. i see.

while it may not work too much for me, as i do not use rss feeds anyway, i can see how this would make sense and could be a future update to the rss feeds with bandwidth expanding and such.

tx for explaination.

I can think of other uses as well, including:

- viewing images from webcams, security cameras, etc. broadcast via web pages
- monitoring very small (yet for some reason important for one) parts of web pages - for example, I've set the widget to show me a very small area of a Samsung web page where information about new firmware for my Bluray player is shown (they said a new one will be coming very soon, but there's no RSS feed for that so instead of having to check their website twice a day I just can take a look at the widget showing me EXACTLY what I'm interested in)
- viewing other kinds of content. For example, I can have a view of users' comments in Software catalog waiting to be approved. I can see new comments almost as quick as they come.
- and MUCH more.

"Much More" : can it also be used for things like (push) eMail and social media like : MSN , Facebook , Twitter etc ? Instead of a dedicated App , I mean ?

☺ Regards jApi NL
