11400 views (almost as much as the most frequently viewed topics on together.jolla.com) and we're still discussing it between 3-4 persons. Amazing. Maybe it's time to restrict the visibility of the forum again to just registered/logged in members to filter out (and/or force to register) all those mute people who never say a word.

Finally. Someone on the devlist put it the right way

https://lists.sailfishos.org/pipermail/devel/2014-April/004045.html

and this way kind of forced Jolla to give a concrete answer:

"We see the payment support in store as a really important part of our developer offering. We are currently working to support payments in our Jolla Store and Harbour but there are a lot of things for us to do. Our current target is to provide you the monetizing possibility durign the 2nd half of 2014."

https://lists.sailfishos.org/pipermail/devel/2014-April/004063.html

See how little it takes to clarify the situation...

The next question is, "Will there be Sailfish developers left in 2nd half of 2014?" Jolla has given themselves up to the next 8 months to do it so this is apparently not a priority item for them.

I think it depends on what they mean by "2nd half", as it may be July just as well as late December, which makes a huge difference, especially if in the meantime e.g. Ubuntu or Tizen phone comes out and makes developers busy porting their apps to that other platform...

I also think that with everything they do about the Harbour and the Jolla store, they try to be way too much, unnecessarily perfectionist. See how the entire Harbour FAQ is actually just a list of restrictions. And apps get rejected for many additional reasons, e.g. because they use 1% more CPU time than allowed. Apparently, the same way they want to have a PERFECT support for paid apps, and they prefer to keep delaying it rather than offer something that's not perfect (from their point of view). Whereas, as I wrote, nothing wrong would happen if they allowed simple support for paid apps now (without copy-protection, etc.) and then simply upgraded it to something more sophisticated.

If it is coming in July they would have said, "within the next 3 months" or something like that. Throwing out a vague long duration like "our current target is 2nd half of 2014" means they have not started anything and have no idea when it will be done but still need to give an answer to the community. Remember it is just a target, not a schedule.

Well... you're most probably right. And the previous target was spring 2014.

As I wrote, the best solution would be to provide simple support for paid apps (without copy-protection and the remaining advanced stuff) asap, and then simply upgrade it. But it doesn't seem to be something they consider an option.

I don't know if I did. But I always wanted to encourage you to write a small simple Store-App yourself that provides payments via Paypal or something similar. Something like the OpenRepos app but with payment. I know this seems a little bit dump, but I think I should have really encouraged you to do it. Maybe it's still the right time to do it?

I remember reading somewhere that Openrepos.net were planning to release support for paid apps in first half of this year.

Does anybody know anything about this?
