i have both n810 and n900. i like almost everything about n900 but one thing its missing is n810s larger screen(only size,n900 has better clearity) and built quality. i use my n810 for casual web browsing and also as alarm clock&internet radio lol

i think n810 renders most websites as fast as n900 but the browser is not as nice and responsive. do you think i should expect n900 browser to be ported for maemo 4 or n810 is dead already?

You could say that the user interest and developer activity have moved to the N900. The N900 most likely already now has a much larger user base than the previous Nokia Internet Tablets ever had. So it is only natural that the focus is now on the N900.

There is ongoing work to backport a lot of the maemo 5 fixes to Maemo 4 - I think a repository has been set up for testing this. I'm not sure that extends to more major updates like the browser though.

You could take a look at Firefox Mobile 1.1 Beta 1, see this post. This version also works on the Nokia N810 according to the release notes (see system requirements).

I know this thread is old and all..
but for certain I'll answer the question...
"Is the n810 dead?"
answer:
Hardly...

It's the beginning of 2016 now and still new people are showing up with a (new for them) device in hand.... at maemo talk. (roughly a new n8x0 user every month joining and asking questions...)
I'm still puttering away myself with my n8x0's and n900's...
there are still people (albeit not as many as when it was a "new" device line..but still..) working away at porting, writing and creating cool stuff for them.
Little goes wrong with them compared to new devices and platforms always having problems nowadays...
Consequently most n8x0 users happily putter away with little to complain about or help needed...
Hell....the n8x0 subforums are busy...you can see the numbers of people at a given time there...but it is more study, research and hunting going on than anything else...
When the day comes that no one new shows up,
asks questions,
new stuff isn't created,
and the subforums are silent...
for a whole year...
then I might question whether there is a pulse ...
