A new exploit has just been announced. "BlueBorne" is a Bluetooth vulnerability which affected nearly all mobile OSes. Google, Apple and Microsoft already released security patches fixing it.

BlackBerry has issued a security note, indicating that:

* all their Android phones ARE affected. A patch is available as part of September security maintenance release OS update for customers who bought their phones via ShopBlackBerry.com (as only they get OS updates directly and not via carriers). People who bought their phones elsewhere "are advised to seek solutions from their carriers" Smile

* NONE of BlackBerry 10 phones are affected Smile

In other words, an OS that has not been updated for months (and not really developed for a couple of years) is not vulnerable and does not need any patches, while all the "dynamically developed" OSes do. And it's been like that with all previous exploits I can recall.

A switch from such a TRULY secure, own platform to an OS that takes a security maintenance release every single month (that BBRY cannot even guarantee as it only depends on Google), and still calling it "the most secure" is really amusing.

And that's why I do not plan to say goodbye to my Passport anytime soon. With no need for millions of silly apps, I very much prefer a stable and secure OS on a fantastic device with superb screen and keyboard the Passport is... After a year of use, its battery health is still 97% so I expect it to outlive me Wink
