Hi, I purchased a P900 in December (I am on firmware R2B02). Since then I have been having problems trying to use the phone with a bluetooth headset.

I have tried my P900 with a Sony Ericsson HBH-30 and a Jabra BT250 but am getting mixed results:

  • Most of the time (80%) I can initiate a voicedial from the headset OK, but sometimes I cannot.
  • If I dial a number from the phone (by entering the number manually, or selecting a contact), the sound is transferred to the headset about 60% of the time.
  • When there is an incoming call the sound is transferred to the headset 20% of the time.

Who else is having problems using a bluetooth headset, as reading posts on my-symbian and other boards, this seems to be a very common problem?

I want to see if this is unique to my phone, or if this is a general problem that should be addressed by a firmware update. As it stands the P900 / Bluetooth headset combination is practically useless for me, I can't drive anywhere and be sure that I will receive incoming calls or be able to make outgoing calls without resorting to pressing buttons on the phone (illegal in the UK, while driving).

NOTE: This is poll is only aimed at P900 owners, I had a P800 for just under a year and it worked fine with a Bluetooth headset.

Hi,

My problem (posted previously in another thread) is different to yours. I find that when I power up in the morning the H/S and Phone fail to correctly pair, perhaps 60-70% of the time. After a lot of fiddling around I find I can mostly overcome this by switching BT OFF and then ON on the phone. I do believe this is a firmware problem. I have a mate whose phone behaves in the same way. By the way I am using a Jabra BT200.

Celios I have your exact problem. But i can connect to the call later by pressing the connect button on the headset most of the time.

pkcindia you mean that even if the call is not being transfer to the headset (both when sending and receiving call), you can always do it manually by pressing a button on the headset? if it is the case I think I can live with it.....

Yes that is exactly what I mean but the problem is that you get bugged up waiting for all the beeps until your headset connects to the phone.
I AM LIVING WITH IT ANYWAY, cause we have no other option right now.

Actually, what makes the problem with the headset not taking incoming calls even worse is that it does not seem to be possible to transfer the sound to the headset manually when the flip is off. Is there an option to do this? Seems to be a bit of an oversight really... Crying or Very sad

Didn't pkcindia said that you can always transfer the call to the headset by pressing a button on the headset? (amid several second of waiting Razz)

Doesn't work for me, all that happens is after the call is finished, my headset tries to voicedial! Admittedly, I have only tried this with a Jabta BT250, I'll have a go with HBH-30 when I get home tonight.

I am having the same types of problems..I press the headset buttom (hbh-65 btw) to use a voice dial, and it just beeps trying to connect to the phone and about 70% of the time doesn't connect. I have similar problems answering the phone with the headset. Very annoying for such an expensive phone. This my first SE brand phone..and may be my last if SE doesn't get their head out of their a$$ and fix this with a firmware update.

I agree with you techspy that this is far from ideal, especially since the phone has been available for almost 2 months now. If this poll is indicative of the general P900 userbase, it looks like they shipped the P900 either knowing the bluetooth implementation was buggy, or without testing it (which I can't believe). The final irony is that Bluetooth is the brainchild of Ericsson and their Bluetooth implementations usually set the standards. I have a support call logged with SE in the UK and I am very interested to see what they say. The nightmare scenario is that the problem is a hardware fault and we all have to return our phones to finally get bluetooth headsets working properly...

What I find most odd is that no reviews of the P900 have mentioned this 'weakness' with Bluetooth? Did anyone test it with a headset?

See my thread here:

As you can see, don't expect anything helpful from S/E UK. Sad

Pete, I knew I had seen your thread before, but I searched and browsed for ages before posting this one (honest, Michal!) Embarassed

I wanted to do the poll as well though to make sure we get an idea of the proportion of users. This is by no means scientific, but it is starting to look like this is a problem with 90% of P900s and not just an isolated case.

We need to communicate just how much of a problem this is and perhaps we should start trying to get some press attention, in the UK this could be linked up with the recent change in the law regarding mobile use while driving - "Sony Ericsson in car mobile danger shocker!" - anything is worth a try.

If the phone does not work as advertised, we can all ask for refunds. I bought direct from SE and the fault has been there from day one, it was defective from the start and nothing has worn out, etc. They must be aware of this problem - I think they are doing the usual big company trick, pretend there is no problem until you have a solution and then tell everyone. This is their flagship phone and they invented the technology, I can understand how embarrassing it must be for them!

Wasn't there something about Orange refusing a number of batches of P900's, this may have been part of the problem...
