For map image files we use our file format - ogf2. PC converter (img2ogf.exe) included.
Setup instructions:
1. Install ".sis" file to phone. Drive "D" is recommended.
2. On phone create next folders:
d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\maps
d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\waypoints
d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\tracks
d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\names
3. On PC run img2ogf.exe, and convert map image (.bmp,jpeg,gif) to .ogf2 file.
4. Put .ogf2 and .map files to d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\maps folder on phone. OZI .map file is required. The name of .map and .ogf2 files must be same.
5. On phone run MapViewGPS...

I have a ton of BSB Seacharts that work perfectly in Ozi Explorer but I can't find a way to export a map image and so, I can't use the damn things in this program which would be extremly nice. Any ideas? The maps are copyrighted, but since I own them I should be able to export them to a handheld, shouldn't I?
Edit: Ehh.. I just realized your nice looking little program never saves any kind of settings?? What good is an option for auto-connecting to gps if the option is unchecked every time I restart the program? I'm using an A925 if that matters, my A1000 is sent to service.

In ozi explorer you can export map to image file. Select menu item: "File->Save map to image file->Color image...", and type image file name: e.g. "c:\my_map.bmp".
After this you can convert bmp file saved by ozi to ogf2 via img2ogf tool...
And about settings: Are you install program to drive "C:"?
Now path to setting file is hardcoded to "d:\system\apps\mapviewgps2\mapviewgps.cfg". So, just create folder "d:\system\apps\mapviewgps2\".
I am going to fix this problem in next versions...
Thnx you for feed back

Thanks,
It works very well even with a big map (12 600 K .
One problem is that I can not read the .txt files.
Example relnotes.txt starts: RELEASE NOTES ïî MapViewGPS âåðñèè 2

it is normal, files in archive in russian:)
i have translated .txt files. here they:
i still can't add attachment ((, so put relnotes here:
mapviewgps 2 release notes
1. data files
-------------
the mapviewgps version 2.0 uses the new format of images - ogf2, and tracks, waypoints, search,
and map calibration files compatible with ozi is used.
program files are stored in folder d:\media files\document\mapviewgps\.
files of maps are in subdirectory "maps". each map will consist of two files with an identical name:
a calibration file (.map), and a image file (.ogf2). the calibration file format is compatible
with oziexplorer.
main way of obtaining of a (.ogf2) file from existing map images is usage of suplied tool img2ogf.
files of tracks are in subdirectory "tracks", and have (.plt) extension;
files of waypoints are in subdirectory "waypoints", and have (.wpt) extension;
files of search are in subdirectory "names", and have (.names) extension.
2. ui of the program
--------------------
in comparison with version 1.5 the interface of the program practically has not varied.
main differences:
- operation with tracks is completely changed;
- the text and a compass in a map mode switches on/off by stylus tap on a position
of the screen on which there should be a text or a compass;
3. maps.
the new format of map files allows to use maps practically any size, without any limitations.
at review of a map, it is displayed by one "piece". shipment from a disk goes completely
automatically, practically is not appreciable for the user. however, at a zoom level 50%, and less,
loading and drawing map time drammaticaly increases.
4. operation with tracks
------------------------
by operation of the program a track is automatically saved to the ram. for saving a track to disk
it is necessary to make it through the menu "service->tracks->save current track...". otherwise,
at an quit from the program the track will be lost. for reset current track the command
"service->tracks->reset current track" is used. his command erases all currently stored in ram track.
commands "load track/close track " can be used for loading an auxiliary track which is simply echoed.
it is simultaneously possible to load any quantity of tracks, sequentially having selected them through
the command "load track". on the command "close track" all loaded tracks are closed.
through dialogue of customization it is possible to customize an interval of record of points of a track
(to put values of not less than 5 seconds better). on the screen, and colors of the current and loaded
tracks as it is possible to customize width of a line of a track.
it is necessary to remember, than it is more loaded tracks, and the to a bowl in it points,
the more slowly redraw's the screen.
practically, at loading tracks 15000 points totally containing more, practically all resource of the
processor will be is spent on drawing a track.
5. perfomance
-------------
unfortunately, sometimes not suffice perfomance cpu of phone, therefore, for increase speed of
the program it is possible to disable all unnecessary features:
- fast redraw - disables buffered output to the screen. as consequence, at redraw will be
observed screen flicker
- disable fade - disables shadowing a rectangle under the text in a map mode.
as, drawing of a track, a compass, a kilometer grid, and the text eats perfomanse.
therefore, for increase perfomance and as consequence of prolongation of a battery life,
set forth above it is necessary ...

Hi,
I am pretty new to the GPS scene. As far as I know Wayfinder is the best solution today for the P910. I would like to try this solution though.
Where can I find maps?
Is a program like this able to tell me when to turn etc och is it just showing my position on the map?
Regards, Peter

It's impossible to install software to d: on motorola phones so it'd be wise to not hardcode the path for the settings to d, otherwise you're loosing potential users for a pretty stupid reason.
About the exporting map-image in ozi, I did exactly what you described above, but ozi refuses to export the image because of the copyrighted maps. Which makes life very hard for me because these are the only sea-charts that I have available and it'd be great not having to buy some new ones? As far as I know, the one's I've got are the best anyway...

Now I've finally figured out a way to circumvent the copyrighted map images in ozi explorer, by printing the map image to virtual printer that enables me to output it into any image format I want, even vector formats. I can highly recommend this software, it's called ePrint and is made my LeadTools.
As soon as you have made options stick this will be my must have app on my A1000 when I'm sailing next summer..!

Thanks to all
@Lombiz
Current version only show your position. You can find maps by google search "OZI explorer maps ${region}"
@XeCutor
Of couse,stupid bug must be fixed
@sub
I have download a925 sdk, and going to learn how to use inetrnal GPS receiver. Implementation of sounds is coming soon too...
@golab
Not in 2.0, first becouse GPRS coverage is not very good, and practically, if you hope to download maps on the way, you can be disappointed... The second reason is different maps format: nhGPS uses simply image file e.g., and can just download and use. MapViewGPS uses more complex maps format, so we must "on-fly" convert received online images. It's not very simple I am going to try do it some time late...
@oco
geotiff - As i know, ozi explorer can import geotiff, and save it to .map/.bmp format...

Is it possible to enter waypoints at other than current position?
I would also like to
- enter routes (by using those waypoints in phone memory).
- see cordinates by tapping a position
- see distance from current position to taped position
