University of Oxford has made x86 emulator, which allows you to run dos and linux on symbian based mobiles. Here is description:

JPC is a pure Java emulation of an x86 PC with fully virtual peripherals. It runs anywhere you have a JVM, whether x86, RISC, mobile phone, set-top box, possibly even your refrigerator! All this, with the bulletproof security and stability of Java technology.

JPC creates a virtual computer upon which you can install your favorite operating system in a safe, flexible and powerful way. It aims to give you complete control over your favorite PC software's execution environment, whatever your real hardware or operating system, and JPC's multi-layered security makes it the safest solution for running the most dangerous software in quarantine - ideal for archiving viruses, hosting honey pots, and protecting your machine from malicious or unstable software.

---

I successfully managed to replace some useless freedos programs like format.com or fdisk.com with ... SCORCH. It is inserted in a:\scorch\

resolution is set to 320x240 (should fit e61 screen nicely, but you can override this in scorch.cfg). Some files of scorch are missing, but it should work anyway. For me freedos boots properly, but it seems like scorch needs more memory than my E61 can provide. Please test it on better hardware (f.e. n95).

You can download my tweaked jpc jar file here:

Even dosemu running on desktop machines, with far better specs than any phone, is a bit slow. I can't imagine how horribly slow this java x86 emulator might be running on current gen phones.

It's really slow on my OMAP 369mhz inside the Nokia 6120 and crash a bit too much times.
I think they should not use Bochs for emulation but Dosbox source code becausr it's faster.

It would be much better with an emulator developed for Symbian instead of Java. Much better performance and so on.

Well, it runs, slow of course, but it runs on my N93i... Identicaly as in N95 Demo... Does anybody know how to run DOS-Games or programs in this VirtualPC Emulator... It can't detect my harddisk, and sees only "A:" and "B:" Floppies... Or how could I create an image disk of directory on my SmartPhone?

Nokia 6120 has FreeScale MXC300-30 369 MHz Processor, Not OMAP...

I can't understand which version of "mobile JVM" is required to run JPC, any help?!?
The "standard" JVM must be at least 1.6, but mobile one?!?
