Nokia E90 without question if size doesn't bother you. It's big but big for a reason. Even washes your clothes for you

Well, I would go for E71. Reason? Price. Otherwise E90 for sure... But you can´t go wrong with E71.

i've got an E90 and love it but the size is definately a drawback. When the E71 came out most reviewers compared it to the E61i which it replaced but what excited me was that it seemed to provide all of the functionality of my E90 in a slim and sexy form factor. Now we know it's not that simple. The E71 falls short on a few important areas compared to the E90:
- Photo quality
- Video recording
- Movie playback; and of course
- Screen size
(I don't count the keyboard size as a drawback as I actually think that the E71 is more comfortable to type on than the E90)

If the things above don't bother you, then the lovely form factor of the E71 has to win it, surely!?

Me, I'm torn. Just don't know whether to up/downgrade to the E71. If only its camera and video abilities were on a par with the E90, it would be a done deal...

For me the E90 has many times served me great as a very good quality camera to take surprise pics of my kids on a walk for instance. These photos were developed then in 10x15 cm size in great quality. If E71 is not ready to give me such a support it is not an option for me.

Hi all,

Well i have been using an E90 for 7 months now and had a trial E71 form WOM World but only used it for a week.

If you are coming from an E61 the E71 is a great upgrade but going from a E90 it is definitely a downgrade.

The E71 is a really great device with superb build quality and possibly one of the best keyboards i have ever used. Even though it is small it is very easy to use and very tactile. The screen is bright and clear and perfect for the size of the device but an E90 beater it isn't. The E71 also doesn't support playing H.264 videos above 15 fps which results in them being choppy. It does how ever play H.263 @23fps perfectly and on the screen this quality is good but then i wouldn't want to watch anything longer than about 30 minutes on it.

The E90 really is without equal IMO and if the size and weight isn't a problem there really isn'y anything better IMO.

The E71 is a small and light with great build quality and perfect as a business device but is weaker at Multimedia. So that's the choice you have to make as to what is important to you. For everything you need the E90 or for smaller less well featured device the E71

I agree with most of the comments, such as those from breitling806. being an owner of an E90 for around 9 months, i have been impressed with it’s feature set and functionality, in particular the multimedia playback and video recording.

All things considered for my requirements, the E71 in it's current state cannot replace the E90, but if nokia were to release an "E71i" with improve playback, image/video recording, and TV out then I would certainly buy one : )

Yes, I think atangy has nailed it: you need an E71i to replace the E90, with the same (or better) camera and multimedia capabilities as the E90....

E71 has easily replaced E90 for me. One thing that others haven't mentioned here is the speed advantage of E71 over E90. Everything feels so much snappier, things just happen. Other thing that I don't miss is opening the phone up and waiting for the screen to adjust.

E71 multimedia capabilities are good enough for my occasional use. I guess it really comes down to how crucial those are for you. Then again, if they are the key point for you, maybe N-series phone would be a better fit (I still don't understand why they haven't made a qwerty N-series phone - there are plenty of text messaging teens that would go crazy over one).

@pillar

The E71 is fast but it is no faster than the E90 with 210.34.75 firmware they both boot in 27 seconds. My E90 has no delay on opening it into laptop mode and using the internal screen. In fact all apps open without delay same as on the E71, the only thing different on the E71 is the Notification light and the way SMS and Voice mails are now displayed with the icons on the bottom of the screen.

What you gain is a smaller lighter device and what you lose is the 4" screen and better Multimedia support that really is it IMO.

@Dogmann I wasn't talking about the boot time. What I meant was opening applications and menus. To me it at least feels faster. Also, scrolling in applications (especially web). That reminded me some of extra features that I like in E71:

- When you scroll and keep scrolling to the same direction for a while, it starts going faster
- The way missed calls and text messages are shown in the active desktop
- Fast dialing by just starting to type in the active desktop
- Whenever a contact is highlighted, you can get a menu of available actions by pressing the right navigation key
- Breathing navibutton center, when you have missed call or sms etc.
- When keys locked, pressing the navigation center displays a nice big clock
- Calendar entries are a lot more compact and you can see much more of the settings on the screen

These are some of the small things that make a big difference for me in every day use. They actually mean more to me than 30fps video recording would. But this is just my preference and I know that of course some feel the other way around.

Btw. I used E90 as my smartphone for over a year and still consider it a great device. In fact, if E71 wouldn't exist, I still would be using it quite happily. So I am not trying to put down E90 in any way.

I had an E61 before I switched to P990i (side by side with E61), 9300i and then to the E90. The E71 is a nice device but E90 is even better. The biggest difference is the wide display and the ability to use A4 wide docs without the need for scrolling side to side.

The same applies to web and media use.

If you want a smaller device - go for the E71. It´s very good especially at it´s price point. If you want a decent Internet device, read documents in full A4 width and so on: go for the E90.

For me the E71 would be a perfect "second device" to the E90 but it´s not a good replacement for my use.

Having got increasingly fed up by my E61i's sluggishness, I was really looking forward to the E71... only to be let down by the Nokia-RIM troubles. I need Blackberry. But I don't want a Blackberry. Smile

So, now seriously considering the E90. Prices seem to have held up well!

i've had the E61i, and E71 it's the same, with many improvements, for me the E71 it's the E90 without the inner screen and a big keyboard, and some multimedia "capabilities",i think the the e90 has a big drawback, that's the size but try to see a full web page with the E71 screen..it's sucks,in my opinion the E71 is about mails,portable,business/work,E90:full web and documents view,business/work, and brick Very Happy, but with a BT keyboard it can substitute a net laptop or even a laptop.if there would more programs converted from platform windows/linux to symbian it would be perfect!the only thing i miss in class with E90(symbian) is a "converted" platform(windows to symbian) to code, but with new development and hacks i think it will be possible.Sorry for the english Very Happy
