If we had ROM cooking on the Symbian platform there wouldn´t be any problems to port the E75 features to the E90. The difference is only some applications and a really easy way for Nokia would be to provide them as downloads.

ROM cooking won't work on Nokia phones, because firmware for Nokia phones has to be signed, see this post.

The only solution would be something in the Hard-SPL style. The ROM cooking for HTC devices exists because of the fact the SPL (bootloader) can be hacked to accept unsigned firmware. If the SPL would be locked - no ROM cooking would exist.

But it seems both HTC and Microsoft has realized ROM cooking must be an accepted part of the world. It makes the devices attractive for the power users who buy highend ones. As someone said: "We can´t live with them - we can´t live without them".

Phone: Nokia E71 + 9300

After problems with my diverse 9300i, I bought an E90 and missed the speed in menu's. Two weeks ago, my E90 had a broken microphone so nobody could hear me anymore when using the phone-function.

I bought an E71 via www.2dehands.be for half of the price of my E90 to be helped and to my astonishing surprise it is indeed a lot faster. Everything could be transformed easily and now it has e fast 4 GB small SD-card in it. The pictures seem to be the same quality and typing is easier than I thought it would be because the E90 seemed to be more robust and had a larger keyboard.

Indeed my E71 seems to be even more than 10% faster. I think not mainly through the processor, but through the software that does not have to think what screen is used (inner or outer smaller screen).

This is truly Nokia again as it used to be in the beginning days (199X).
