My question is simple: Does anyone get the Opera Mini 5 Beta working on the S80-based communicators?

I have tried to install it but it freezes the whole 9500 and I had to restart it.

I tried it on a 9300i a week back, and it did the same thing you described. Yesterday I tried it on my Nokia 7710 which has the S90 user interface (based on the 9500's S80 UI) and it also froze, and somehow drained the battery while it was at it Shocked

The latest working Mini is v4.2, but I hope it's not the last. It's still a hundred times better than the memory hungry and sluggish built-in browser.

The only drawback of Opera Mini 4 is no tabbed browsing. The other recent browser like UCWEB, Teashark and Bolt refuses to work. Opera Mini 3 mod works fine, but the stable version of Opera Mini 3 Mod doesn't have the support of switching between tabs using shortcut. The Opera Mini 3 Mod Beta does have the support of shortcut to switch between tabs, but it is unstable (freezes often).

You must not have any problem using Bolt as well.

At the moment I am using the 4.2, but it doesn't have the tabbed browsing.

Bolt doesn't work for me, it simply froze my 9500.

Opera Mini 5 beta 2 works on 9300i (so it should work on 9300 and 9500 as well)! Initialisation takes a while but it's worth the wait; the app looks brilliant and it seems to be as fast as 4.2. It has a fullscreen option so no more of those red bars taking space on the screen any more *

The whole app is candy for the eye: it works fluently, and I don't know if it was on the 4.2, but this version has text anti-aliasing, at least when the font is set to "very small".

* Just saw that 4.2 also has the fullscreen option, I didn't remember that right.
