The new firmware version 1.2009.44.1 has solved the problem with ringing tone only going through the connected headset (wire or Bluetooth). Now one also hears the ringing tone in the loudspeakers on the phone itself, when a call comes in.

Also fixed, the delay when coming to dial a contact (shortcut) on your desktop, it used to take 3 - 4 seconds.
Now it's instant !

The Bluetooth stack has also been updated. My N900 is now able to automatically reconnect to my Nokia BH-900 Bluetooth headset after having been out of range for several minutes.

Does anyone know if this update now enables MfE to work with Exchange Server 2003? My N900 will be staying in its box until I can get my emails pushed through to it.

Thanks in advance.

No, the Exchange 2003 update is part of PR1.1. This firmware is PR1.01 and is just a minor update, including some fixes required to correctly install PR1.1 later.

If a reboot doesn't free up enough memory, disable the extras-testing and extras-devel repositories until after you've updated. If that still doesn't give enough space, you'll need to uninstall some of the -devel apps you've installed.

Yes. without dissabling any repositories, I just uninstall some apps and then reboot. Now I have new firmware Smile

Do we need to install this new firmware to be able to upgrade to the next "major" upgrade when it gets released?

... which is a step towards iPhone-like restrictions. There are no reasons to remove the Red Pill mode other than making it even more difficult to have alternate/independent software distribution/sales channels competing with the Ovi store.

Security definitely wasn't the reason behind removing the Red Pill mode. Those who were using Red Pill mode will now have to use the dpkg command in the X Terminal, which is considerably LESS SECURE as it requires enabling root access and typing the command and its arguments "manually".

Maemo has just gotten more commercial and less open than it used to be. Let's hope that further restrictions won't follow.
