Yep, just read that bummer myself after beinig really excited for about 2 minutes when I first read "free navigation".
That's really great Nokia, bring out a device with a lot of delay and then, not even 2 months after it's available ignore it for new apps.
I just new something like that would happen- the industry moves so fast you'd have to buy a new devie every 4 months in order to remain up to date.
Really disappointed here Evil or Very Mad

The N900 is your top product next to the N97 and will likely remain the only Maemo phone for some time, this move shows how unimportant N900 buyers are- they seem to be considered beta tester geeks.

I think that if this really is true I'm going to sell my N900 and buy something else. This would mean that they don't really care for us and the N900 anymore.

very fast decision ..... patience is a virtue.

i bought the n900 on a installment form my local bank .. since i am doing my residency i cannot afford such a luxury ..but i still bought it since i am crazy for technology and nokia phones..

i cannot sell my n900 .. i will wait and watch ..

I don't really use Ovi maps but man I would not be too happy if Nokia didn't roll this free navigation to the N900. Where is the logic behind that?

Yes it is a virtue. But it's not about the Ovi Maps but about Nokias attitude to us-end users of their product. They tell us that they are not going to put much effort to their top product because they are working on something better. This is wrong!

As reported on a couple of web sites, Ovi Maps 3.0.3 will apparently come to the N900:

http://experts.thelink.co.uk/2010/01/22/nokia-n900-to-feature-ovi-maps -303/
http://noknok.tv/2010/01/22/free-ovi-maps-3-03-on-the-nokia-n97-and-no kia-n900/

Though it is not clear whether it will be Maemo 5 or Maemo 6.

i slept now a night after nokia gave us free navigation..

And the more i think about it the less i like it. Especially nokia that already has the behavior we drop phones as fast as possible because we want you to buy new phones

the last phones i had i all had more or about 2 years (9300, E90) and there getting new firmware updates with more features was not really done.

My hope was that with the N900 because maemo is way more open that behavior of nokia was not moved to the N900 (if it is this will be my last nokia phone).

But now i think it will happen because of this free navigation.. Because where does nokia now get its profit from??? Yes selling new phones.. So what should nokia do to get people do that? Yes stop supporting phones as soon as possible no more upgrades no more new features. Nothing.. Because if you want that buy a new phone.

I hate that business i really dont like it. That i find a big plus for Apple, apple doesnt do much right in my eyes but that is a big plus.. Also android especially if you have a rooted device is also upgradeable.

Why cant i just have an option that i pay for the hardware and for the software including the OS and all the build in apps. I really want to pay for that yearly if needed. (let say i pay nokia 50 euro's per year to get all the latest upgrades until really my hardware cant handled it anymore)
Because if i pay nokia i can expect and sort of "demand" that nokia does give me the things. But now also with maps. Where is nokia's drive to upgrade and support older phones ?? Its completely gone.

i just tried downloading maps couple nites ago. then i found my sd card from my e90 had maps downloaded already so i copied the cities folder into my n900.

so i loaded up ovi on my n900 and blank. maybe wrong maps version. so i deleted the cities folder so maps would create a new one n start fresh. loaded maps again, now its stuck in loading screen permanently.

one thing i did notice strange is that last time ovi maps loaded up and working, it stopped asking me to connect to internet for some reason n no i wasn't connected to any internet connections.

is anyone kind enough to help me get my maps working b4 ovi maps 3.0 is available for n900?

You have to install maps on the N900 with the Maps Loader in Mass Storage mode, see:

http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibi lity-and-download#/default/

With Maps Loader, you can delete all existing maps on the device. Maybe this will enable Maps on your N900 again.

i just tried it, maploader isn't detecting n900 at all in mass storage mode.

i am not sure if it had to do with me overwriting the .qf file with the qf file from memory card. but in this case i'm willing to give any possibility a shot. is there anyone who might have an original .qf file from n900's ovi maps?

You can just delete the .qf file(s), and run Maps on the N900 to recreate it. To update the maps, make sure you're using Nokia Map Loader 3.0.28.0 (not Nokia Map Updater, and not an earlier version), and that the desktop OS is detecting both the internal and external cards.
