Hello,

This was mentioned in another thread as a mild tangent to the topic (if I remember correctly...or was it parallel to the topic thread?). Anyhow, I figure to ask/complain/vent on a new thread if the mods do not mind...

What has happened with Nokia Messaging all of a sudden? It is just running to darn slow. This goes for wifi & 3G Tmobile USA. Any suggestions? Did anybody get a fix around this? I am aware there are others with the same problem too on this site. It just takes way too long to delete emails, to open emails, to go between mail boxes.
Confused

Yes, you are right. They scr*wed up something in the PR1.2 update. Since then I've been (randomly) getting annoying slow-downs. Updating the mailboxes and opening emails in such cases takes a looooong time.

It's not something that happens all the time. It only happens sometimes and I am yet to find when and what's causing it. I noticed that the account set and the main (default) one is mostly affected, i.e. all the remaining accounts update in just a second while then the main one takes half a minute to update.

Strange.

Michal,

My main account does appear to be the slowest of them all. I remember this happening on my former E71. It was a Nokia Messaging server issue back then and on this one, it clearly resembles the same bug.

I really do not think we can do anything about this here until Nokia Messaging does something on their servers. Now if you were to tell me that you do not use Nokia Messaging and this problem is seen with your current 3rd party email client.... then... Shocked .

Ceroberts75,

Can you please tell us step by step on how to go about this...por favor? I just download onto my main drive via my N900; then open up x-terminal and type the above code?

Hello,

I loaded up this thread on my N900 but was unable to have the download link/icon load up! Strange. So I just opened this thread via my laptop and downloaded the file. I then transferred it onto my "data" folder and I typed the above code in X-terminal went with no success.

Now of course I need a code modification here since I put the file into my data folder (via laptop & Ovi Sync: My Computer-->N900-->Data). Help

Dr. Nitun,

First of all, you need to be root to do this, so type sudo gainroot first (assuming that you have rootsh installed).

Then, you need to go to the directory in which you saved the downloaded file, using the cd command, e.g.

cd MyDocs

if you stored it under "N900" in File Manager.

Then type the command ceroberts75 posted, i.e.

tar xzf modest-3.4.2-baxyp-1.tar.gz -C /

I'd like to add that this patch makes the email client work just PERFECTLY. It's not only a "speed issue" that it fixes. There are much more bugs in the PR1.2 email client, most of them caused by the connection to a POP3 server not being correctly terminated. This was causing that the email client sometimes wasn't reporting/downloading new email (I experienced and reported it right after I upgraded my N900 to PR1.2). Sometimes it was also deleting email from server even if it was set to keep it.

It seems that this patch fixes ALL these issues. I warmly recommend using it. Since I appied it, I haven't had any problems with email and it's LIGHTNING fast.

Michel,

I think I am entering the command wrong. I can access MyDocs with no problems. Is there a space between/with/around the last two characters (the C and /)??

The command, with spaces indicated, is:
tar<space>xzf<space>modest-3.4.2-baxyp-1.tar.gz<space>-C<space>/

Robin1n,

I did what you did and I just want to verify if it did successfully execute. I typed the above command line after going into pseudo grainroot & mydocs. I pressed enter and well, nothing happened.

The "/home/user/myDocs #" command line on the next line after I pressed Enter. Is this correct??

If nothing happened then it means everything went OK. If there was any error, an error message would be shown.
