Hi all,

I've just gotten the N900 and one thing that annoys me is the slowless in the way the App Manager works, especially for updating. The fastest way to update the N900 is to do it the same way I've been doing it on my Ubuntu installations.

1. Use App Manager to install gainroot (can't remember the exact name right now) so that you can have root access to the N900.
2. Go to Terminal
3. Type "sudo gainroot" -- the prompt should have a "#"
4. create a text file (I used vi, you could install nano with App Manager if you don't know vi) called "system-update.sh" in /home/user
5. In the text editor, you type:

Code:

#!/bin/sh

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo apt-get -y autoremove
sudo apt-get -y autoclean

6. Then, you make the file an executable file with:
Code:

chmod +x system-update.sh

7. To run the update, type:
Code:

./system-update.sh

Next time you want to update your N900, go to terminal, gain root access (sudo gainroot) then run the system-update.sh (step 7).

Hope this is useful to all, tried searching for similar post but didn't find any (Michal, please feel free to close/delete this post if it is a duplicate).

Wink
