Has anyone else noticed that:

1) Fring no longer offers a last.fm add-on for the E90 (and perhaps for other S60 3rd devices(

2) That mobbler will not properly download the track to be played. It consistently freezes 3-4 times per track.

Googling tells me that last.fm may no longer work with third-party apps. Can anybody confirm that or have my last.fm problems?

Last.fm changed their licensing structure sometime in the past 18-months to not allow 3rd party use on what they term "mobile devices". In order for a program to access Last.fm servers, they are required to have a unique API key which can be freely obtained from the last.fm website.

I haven't heard of any issues with streaming Last.fm content though but it's possible they are cracking down.

Too bad about the 3rd-party apps--especially since Iphone and Android get off scot-free.

I still don't understand why Mobbler plays with last.fm, but only up to a point--it just won't stream consistently. Does last.fm know how to stop the stream with enough frequency to make the whole thing unusable?

No if they were going to block it, it wouldn't even connect to the server. I haven't used Mobbler since I put my E90 away but I do use a Last.fm client on my N900 and it works fairly well although there are some times where songs will get stuck/cut off.

Maybe you should increase the buffer time before the song starts playing. I recall the default being around 10 seconds in Mobbler.

Yes, you're right. Users would either be able to get in, or not. I had already set the buffer to maximum, but I can still see the gray bar (loading) stop 15-or-so seconds in the song while the red bar (play) catches up and the song stalls. Eventually the gray bar restarts, then stops again. Currently, Mobber's unusable, and there's nothing such Pandora Radio for Symbian of any flavor.

It might be a wifi problem, but I'm not getting that problem when on my laptop and in last.fm's site.
