I'd like to let you know that FINALLY a really usable and feature rich YouTube client has been released for the N900. It's not in the repositories yet and at the moment it is provided as standalone deb, but it is really worth installing.

It provides full management of multiple YouTube accounts, video downloads and playback with configurable resolutions (up to 720p), browsing, searching, rating, commenting on videos, creating, editing playlists, subscriptions and favourites, full autorotation on all screens, and more.

excellent news!

ive been using MediaBox with Youtube plugin until now, but i will try this one instead Smile
MediaBox also provides some nice options for choosing between different quality streams - but not all.

using the default N900 MicroB webbrowser for youtube, normally use low quality streams on youtube (since it default to the "Youtube mobile" site).
even when using a desktop UserAgent youtube playback poorly because of "flash-based" commercials.

what i find exceptional with this cuteTube app is the possibility to download streams (=functional), and possibility to login with any youtube account and use such features.

Check the playback resolution in cuteTube's settings. I guess the built in Media Player can't play youtube formats above 360p/480p and I'm not sure if it natively supports FLV (low res youtube videos are streamed as MP4 and the higher ones are FLV). Installing Decoders Support somehow improves this as it adds FLV support.

As Koto wrote, you may also switch the default player in settings from Media Player to MPlayer, which supports much more codecs and resolutions.

Now this is so stupid Shocked After an update of cute tube downloading videos does not work any more. It goes to max 80% and than the application just shut down. Do others have the same experiance?

Edit: There was another update today and now everything is ok.

Open x-terminal and type:
    sudo gainroot
    apt-get install cutetube
This will install cuteTube and all missing packages.

I don't know what's going on with this app. Every while it stops working. I got an update and now I can't watch or download any video. How stupid is that.

The problem is that YouTube has changed the YouTube API. This means YouTube clients also have had to be updated in order to work properly. The developer of cuteTube have stated he now concentrates on getting all remaining bugs out of cuteTube before he adds new features.
