Hi guys

Any quick fix for this?

Was working fine yesterday, not done any updates or anything since then. However I noticedthis morning that the little wi-fi signal strength indicator was not there.

Tried sending myself an SMS and a phone call - nothing.

No internet connectivity - all dead.

Is there anything I can type in xterm to get his back???

Help is always appreciated

Many thanks

What happens if you reboot the phone?

Excuse me for my ignorance - when you say reboot - do you mean battery out and then put back in and switched back on?

Still remains the same

Do you have a status-bar icon showing a SIM card with a red line through it? This can indicate that your SIM card connection has been lost. You may want to try to remove and re-insert the SIM card.

And for the really stupid question (sorry): Did you enable offline/airplane mode by accident?

Thanks for the replies

Tried taking my sim card out already and made sure it is not on offline ( even activated it and de-activated again )

Made sure Normal Mode was acivated but still - nothing

Just have the time - then a gap (where the wi-fi symbol was ) then the battery indicator

Unable to make / receive calls or SMS's

Very strange

You can reboot the device by briefly pressing the power button on the top of device. Then a menu will pop up with a "Switch off!" button. Tabbing this button will switch off the device. Then long press the power button again to turn on the device again.

You can also reboot the device by opening x-terninal and type:
    sudo gainroot
    reboot

Is it just failing to auto-connect? Have you tried a manual connection (tap in the status bar and select the "Internet connection" button?

You could also open x-terminal and type "dmesg". Or if you want better study the output from this command, you could type:
    dmesg >> output.txt
Maybe there is something here that may give a clue to what may be going on.

It is strange.

Let me explain - after these posts I finished work and palked back to my car where all of a sudden a signal was obtained and 6 text messages came though.

I arrived back in work and no signal / dead phone again!

I have been working here since September and this is the first time it has ever happended - I always had a signal here before

very stange indeed.

Is there any construction work going on around your workplace?
Perhaps something that will block your GSM signal?

When I'm in the office, my phone needs to lie close to the window or I won't have any 2G/3G connection. When I get calls they actually sometimes drop when I move away too far from the window.
(This is not a N900 issue, had that with several phones. Actually N900 is doing better than my previous phones).

But as soon as I leave the office building, I have full bars showing me 3G connection.
So sometimes a building can really block that much signal.

But it's strange that yours worked without problems until yesterday...

Do you have a SIM card inserted?

Is the SIM card one that has cellular packet data service from your network operator (service provider, carrier)?

Do you have the required access point settings from your network operator configured properly?
