Hi everyone,

Not sure what's the right subforum for this, so posting it here as I just got my new old Symbian^3 phone from eBay :)

I'm sure it's not a good idea to rely on the big companies with keeping something that's no longer commercially attractive. One day the Ovi Store with all of the applications will be offline, I just don't know when exactly. If that happens, I am not sure if there will be a way to find some other resource that has that many Symbian/Meego apps in one place. I'm not even sure that the original developers still keep them.

A good lesson learned in the past (and one people are forgetting nowadays with all these 'cloud' services) is that if you want to actually have something, just keep a local copy. I know MS wants to kill Symbian user experience in every possible way. So does it make sense to do some sort of Ovi Store/Nokia Maps backup?

I know I can download it and burn to a DVD, but doesn't it make sense to get all possible data and also upload a copy online?

As for the Ovi store, there can be a bot pretending to be a Nokia device parsing the ovi.mobi contents and downloading all of the free apps it sees. Everything can then be packed up in zip and uploaded to the torrents.

Does this sound like something useful to a community?
