We’re glad to announce that the latest Sailfish OS update Taalojärvi is now ready to be shared as an early access release for more advanced users. If you’re interested in joining this group, read more here.

This update is mostly a quality release containing hundreds of bug fixes, most notably in Homescreen, Connectivity and Android support. It has also some valuable new features, such as direct sharing to cloud, lockscreen media controls added for Android media apps, and the ability to show past communication logs directly in contact cards.

Highlights in the Taalojärvi release:
  • Cloud support: share pictures directly to your Dropbox or OneNote account
  • People: past communication events displayed on contact cards
  • Home/Events: access to Events settings added to the Events shortcuts menu
  • Home/Events: flicking between Home and Events made easier
  • Passwords: all password fields in the OS now have the opportunity to show the password
  • Settings: you can now install untrusted software without Jolla account

Android Support:
• Sailfish OS sharing options now added to the Android sharing menu
  • Lockscreen media controls are now available for Android media apps (e.g. Spotify)

Nice to see they are back in business and keeping up OS development.

But not very clever from PR side to make a long enthusiastic blog post about it while a lot of people are waiting for some information on what will happen to tablet contributions from IGG campaign.

This blog post without any mention of the tablet is really asking for the sh*tstorm they are in fact getting (just read the comments to the blog post)...

I still love Sailfish OS and my Jolla phone, and I like every update, but something is really wrong with their decision making and especially with their communication skills.

Maybe they hope that people will give up and stop asking about the tablet just like everyone lost any hope and stopped asking about proper support for native (incl. paid) software...

It's a strange company. They have their goals and ways to achieve them (which, clearly, at least by now, haven't brought them much success) and they don't listen to any opinions or requests. Apparently, even Marc Dillon had to leave... he must have had different vision than those who pull the strings there.

I just can't stand that moaning about lack of funds while they stubbornly refuse to launch a proper app store and start earning money on selling apps. If 50,000 Jolla users bought by now apps worth 50 Euros each (and I'm sure they'd buy more as everyone is hungry for quality native apps), it would give Jolla (assuming typical 30% commission) whopping 750,000 Euros - quite enough not to have to temporarily lay off nearly all their stuff.

The request to provide support for paid apps is now the EIGHT out of 14,000 topics on TJC when it comes to the number of votes, and the difference is so small that with just 26 votes (i.e. 5%) more it would be the FOURTH of all - only the top three topics have a considerably bigger number of votes. But no, for so many months they haven't even bothered to post a single word of update, as they clearly don't give a flying **** about it - there is absolutely no other valid explanation.
