[New] LightSignalPlus for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Do you find the Nokia 5800's built-in Notification Light feature for missed messages/calls actually quite hard to notice? Then LightSignalPlus from PhonePhreak Software is just what you need: it makes ALL THREE KEYS flash every 2 seconds whenever there has been an SMS or a call. LightSignalPlus has been designed to have the keys blink only when it makes sense. I.e. when a message arrives while you are currently in an app, LightSignalPlus assumes that you have taken notice, so the keys will not blink. Firmware update v11.0.008 for the 5800 XM now available
Firmware update v11.0.008 for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has just been made available via the NSU. This is an important update, so if you are still on v10 don't even think twice. While it doesn't bring new features, it corrects many bugs and improves stability to a point that my v11 unit has been running for several weeks now without a single restart, freeze or any other stability issue, something quite unusual on the v10 firmware. And the good news is that firmware update preserves all contents of your phone, so there is no need for a backup/restore hassle (unless you want to be 100% sure, just in case).

Nokia Locate Sensor
At CES 2009, Nokia has just announced a new project by Nokia Research Centre. Nokia Locate Sensor can help you find lost keys, phones, bags, purses or anything you're likely to need right before you rush out the door. The sensor is a tiny device, no bigger than a small thumb. It attaches to whatever you'd like to attach it to and communicates with your phone wirelessly (though we're not totally certain how, just yet - there's no official release so we only know what's been reported so far). Drop whatever has the tag attached and your phone will alert you, via a software app that sits on your phone, and help you find the object, provided you're within 100 meters of it (probably not good for speed boat jaunts then). The system also works the other way around, so you could have the sensor on your person, and if you get separated from your device, an alarm will sound to let you know. Support for 100 individual sensors is provided by the app and each sensor has enough power to last 18 months before it runs out of juice. Read more @ Electricpig.

UIQ Technology files for bankruptcy
According to Reuters, UIQ Technology has filed for bankruptcy in a district court in Sweden. "There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate", said UIQ Chief Executive Johan Sandberg. This means that the darkest fears of UIQ phones' users became reality: the UIQ platform is now really and offically dead...

My-Symbian would like to thank all people behind UIQ for their hard work and giving us all such a great mobile platform. These 6 years will always remain an important part of history of mobile technology. We deeply hope that their intellectual and creative potential will not be wasted and that they will have another chance to impress us once again with great products, hopefully still Symbian OS based.

My-Symbian will continue supporting the UIQ platform, its users and software developers. If you have a UIQ phone and you're satisfied with it, keep using it! It won't stop working only because the company went bankrupt. Keep visiting our discussion forums and checking our UIQ3 Software Catalog for (hopefully) new and interesting software releases...
