Nokia 808 PureView - Belle with 41 Megapixel camera
Nokia today ushered in a new era in high-end smartphone imaging with the Nokia 808 PureView. This is the first smartphone to feature Nokia PureView imaging technologies, bringing together high resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed algorithms, which will support new high-end imaging experiences for future Nokia products.

The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor (7728 x 5368 pixels) with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable. At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.

In addition to superior still imaging technology, the Nokia 808 PureView, also includes full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world's first use of Nokia Rich Recording. Rich Recording enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones. The Nokia 808 PureView also features exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

The smartphone is powered with the latest Symbian OS version - Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1. It is based on a single core ARM-11 processor running at 1.3 GHz. 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0 support makes good use of 808's 4" AMOLED ClearBlack display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass offering nHD (640x360) resolution). The 808 has 512 MB of operating memory (RAM), 16 GB internal storage space and support for microSD memory cards up to 32 GB, 128 MB graphic memory, and obviously all the technologies one might expect from high-end smartphone: Bluetooth 3.0, WLAN 802.11b/g/n, DLNA, NFC, USB 2.0 High Speed with USB OTG 1.3, HDMI connector (and composite TV Out as well), full set of sensors (accelerometer, compass, proximity, ambient light, A-GPS), quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, FM transmitter and receiver, video calls, Nokia Maps with free car and pedestrian navigation, and more.

The camera (as mentioned, 41 megapixels, 7728 x 5368 pixels) has 8.02 mm focal length (35mm film equivalent 26mm @ 16:9, 28mm @ 4:3), f/2.4 aperture, 15 cm to infinity focus range, and a full range of modes, functions and filters known from other high-end Nokia camera phones. It records movies at 1920x1088 pixels @ 30 fps (Full HD 1080p) in H.263, H.264/AVC and MPEG-4. Videos can be edited directly on the device using video editor software.

Nokia WebKit browser supports HTML 4.1, HTML 5, Javascript 1.8, FlashLite 4.0 and Flash Video.

Nokia 808 PureView comes with 1400 mAh BV-4D Li-Ion battery providing talk time of 11/6.5 hours (GSM/WCDMA) and standby time of 465/540 hours (GSM/WCDMA). It has both the 2.0 mm and microUSB charging connectors, with USB charging supported.

The device measures 123.9 x 60.2 x 13.9 mm (95.5 cc) and weighs 169 grams. It will be available in white, red and black colors.

Nokia Maps Suite beta for Nokia Belle
Nokia Maps Suite for Symbian Belle includes a series of tools that will help you experience adventures everyday: Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Public Transport are just the beginning. Just point your browser to Nokia Beta Labs to download it now.

With Nokia Maps you always know where you are and what's around you thanks to impressive coverage of over 190 countries and tens of millions of points of interest (POI). To find more easily the place you are looking for you can use voice search in English language, in the UK (it only works if you have a UK SIM). Geotagged photos and contacts on your Nokia smartphone are now displayed in Nokia Maps, which is therefore getting more personal. You can see all your memories on the map and immediately recognize home or office addresses of the people that matter to you.

Nokia Drive has been updated too. There's the same voice search engine as in Nokia Maps, and multi-point route planner is also included.

Nokia Public Transport included in Nokia Maps Suite beta has a more extensive coverage and a new algorithm that calculates the best route to your destination. It is also possible to save favourite destination on the app home screen. In addition to this, there's also the possibility to start Nokia Public Transport from Nokia Maps by long pressing on any point on the map.

Nokia Maps Suite also brings the latest weather forecasts. You can look at the weather for almost any area (more than 100) you want.

Two home screen widgets are included in Nokia Maps Suite, too: My location and Places. With them you can save among your favourites and share with your friends either your location or a nearby place. Directly from your home screen.

Camera Update now part of Nokia Belle
With Nokia Belle downloads starting this week, more people will have access to the great camera features offered as a preview in the Camera Update for Nokia N8, namely 30fps video recording and continuous autofocus in video close-up mode.

On top of that, the camera UI in Belle has been further improved compared to the earlier application update. For example, the placement of the on-screen shutter button was changed for better ergonomics in landscape and portrait orientation, and the main controls were moved to the bottom of the viewfinder for a cleaner look.

If you update to Nokia Belle, it is recommend NOT to install the earlier camera update on top of it as Belle already contains a newer version.

Nokia Belle upgrade available for download
People who own the latest Symbian ^3 / Anna smartphones can now update them to Symbian Belle – bringing a fresh look to their screens thanks to the latest user interface. Once you have installed Nokia Belle you will still have the same phone, but it will feel like new, with improved performance.

Nokia Belle delivers more personalisation options than before. You can have up to six home screens that are easy to personalize, leaving all your favourite applications and services only a few taps away. New larger live widgets display what's really important to you right onto the homescreen, so you'll always be kept up-to-date. Want to place a shortcut from one screen onto another? That's simple. A long press and a drag to the side of the screen moves it to that screen.

The new and improved Nokia Belle interface also includes new features like imaging applications with HD video recording at 30 frames per second and a visually improved browser enabling high-quality browsing and viewing of Web videos. The menus have been simplified and a notifications bar has been added to make accessing key settings or features, very fast. Plus, with Belle you can also boost your productivity on the go with a wider selection of Microsoft Apps, such as Lync and OneNote that will soon be available for free download on top of Nokia Belle.

Nokia Belle will be available in the majority of the markets today, including countries like India, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Poland, UK, Germany, Italy, Vietnam and Indonesia. You can check the availability of Nokia Belle in your country in our Nokia Belle pages – including the Nokia Belle update rollout status.

As Nokia Belle is a major update, you'll need to connect your phone to a PC to perform the update. To start, make sure you have the latest version of Nokia Suite (3.3 or later) running on your computer, and then connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable. For a step-by-step download tutorial, there's a video available that tells you everything you need to know.

Qt SDK 1.2, QtCreator 2.4.1 and more
Nokia has released Qt SDK 1.2. This update sets a new baseline for the developers for a longer perspective. Some of the features have already been available as online updates, but Qt SDK 1.2 now integrates the very latest tools, most recent mobile build targets for Symbian and Nokia N9, and the still fresh Qt 4.8 for desktops. Some improvements to the SDK and its maintenance tool have also been introduced.

As a summary, this is what is new in the Qt SDK:
  • Fixes for Qt Creator 2.4 in a new 2.4.1 patch update

  • Qt 4.8 for desktops delivering Qt Quick 1.1, Qt platform abstraction, Qt WebKit 2.2, and threaded OpenGL

  • More Qt Mobility examples for Nokia N9 and Symbian devices

  • Ability to specify network proxy setting in the SDK Maintenance Tool

  • Update to the Symbian Complementary Package introducing Analyze Tool plugin and new CODA 1.0.6 installation package

  • An update to Notifications API improving the end user experience and fixing issues in the Nokia N9 implementation of the API.

If you already have Qt SDK installed, you can update to the latest version by running Update Qt SDK from the Qt SDK application folder on your computer. If you first time are getting started with Qt SDK, you can download 1.2 from the download page.
