New Canalys report - Q2 2003
Canalys' latest research shows that smart phones, such as the Nokia 3650 and Sony Ericsson P800, are continuing to provide much of the growth in the EMEA mobile device market. Nokia continues to dominate the voice-centric part of the market (smart phones and feature phones), with 78% share of that segment, followed by Sony Ericsson on 15%, and Orange, with the Microsoft OS powered SPV in third on 5%. The sustained shipments of the two smart phone leaders make this the first quarter where more than 1 million devices running the Symbian OS were shipped in EMEA.

Peroon launches S2S and E2W
Peroon R&D Ltd. announced today the launch of its S2S and E2W porting technology for Symbian OS. S2S enables Symbian OS C++ code line to natively support Symbian OS-based user interface platforms such as Series 60 and UIQ. Specifically, S2S allows Series 60 code line to be compiled for and run on UIQ based mobile phones.

S2S is an application-porting platform that enables application software developers to write applications for Nokia's Series 60 user interface platform based on Symbian OS v6.1 and deploy the application simultaneously to both Series 60 mobile phones (e.g. Nokia 3650) and to UIQ user interface platform devices such as e.g. Sony Ericsson P800 which is based on Symbian OS v7.0. Not an emulator, S2S is a complete cross-platform solution from development to deployment. It actually recompiles Series 60 application source code with the Symbian OS v7.0 compilers, using S2S header files and libraries, to create native UIQ applications. Currently, S2S is the only technology allowing developers to use single Symbian OS C++ source code across both Series 60 and UIQ devices.

E2W technology allows a single Symbian C++ code to be compatible with both Symbian based devices and PocketPC devices.
