Salling Clicker v.2.1
Salling Software AB today announced the immediate availability of Salling Clicker v.2.1, a significant update to its award-winning Bluetooth remote control utility for Macintosh computers. The new version adds extensive support for Symbian-based smartphones from Nokia, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson.

"We believe P900 users will enjoy Salling Clicker. P900 is a truly capable, all-in-one phone, and Salling Clicker adds the entertainment side that professional users are looking for, by enabling this
application via Bluetooth", says Steve Walker, Vice President Global Marketing at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB.

Salling Clicker makes use of these devices' unique capabilities. When controlling iTunes, album artwork graphics is shown in the display, and with pen-operated smartphones, the computer's pointer can be controlled from afar in a new and innovative way. In addition to its extensive support for smartphones, Salling Clicker v.2.1 improves ease-of-use and adds new functionality. "Users of
Apple's iPod will feel at home with how they can now browse their iTunes music library hierarchically with Salling Clicker," said Jonas Salling, President of Salling Software AB.

Nokia unveils 9500 Communicator

Nokia today renewed its commitment to enterprise mobility with the introduction of the first in a series of new enterprise-grade mobile devices designed for corporate customers. The new Nokia 9500 Communicator is one of the first cellular devices on the market designed to meet the demands of corporate IT departments for customization, manageability and security. The tri-band device supporting E-GPRS (EDGE) and Wi-Fi 802.11b is expected to be available in volume during the fourth quarter of 2004. The price (unsubsidized) of the Nokia 9500 Communicator is expected to be around 800 Euro in Europe.

Like its predecessors from the first Communicator family, the Nokia 9500 Communicator takes the most popular office solutions mobile by bringing e-mail, personal information management, with PC synchronization, browsing, vertical enterprise applications and even document, spreadsheet and presentation creation into the pockets of mobile professionals, allowing them to effectively utilize their time while on the road. Other features of the sleek 222-gram (7.83 oz.), 148x56x23.6mm device include:

* Tri-band GSM capability (two variants: 900/1800/1900 MHz and 850/1800/1900 MHz)
* Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b
* Symbian OS 7.0s with J2ME
* In-built VGA camera & MMS
* Bluetooth audio and data support
* USB connectivity (Nokia Connectivity Cable DKU-2)
* 80 MB of free user memory
* Two color (up to 65k colors) displays: 640x200 pixels inside (Series 80 UI) and 128x128 pixels outside (Series 40 User Interface)

Symbian OS 8.0 announced
Symbian Limited today announces the availability of Symbian OS version 8.0, the latest version of Symbian OS. Symbian OS v8.0 is designed to meet the needs of Symbian OS licensees, network operators and enterprises by driving down Symbian OS phone build cost, providing upgraded Java and multimedia capabilities, as well as advanced device management functionality. Key Symbian OS v8.0 enhancements include:

* New 'hard' real-time capabilities - a core technology improvement that enhances the performance of Symbian OS and enables handset manufacturers to use 'single core' processors that integrate telephony and application processing, substantially reducing Symbian OS phone build cost.
* Device management framework - gives network operators and enterprises enhanced remote device management capabilities that allow, for example, remote management and configuration of Symbian OS phones. Based on the OMA SyncML 1.1 open standard, this capability makes Symbian OS phones cost-effective for network operators and enterprises by reducing in-market deployment and management costs.
* Upgraded multimedia framework – gives Symbian OS licensees the ability to integrate quickly and easily the very latest multimedia accelerating hardware in order to deliver high performance multimedia applications such as video streaming.
* Java - Symbian OS v8.0's enhanced Java gives developers the opportunity to access the functionality and performance of Symbian OS to create advanced Java-based applications and services. Fully compliant with network operator Java specifications and Java Community Process standards, Symbian OS v8.0 offers Java MIDP 2.0 (JSR118 ), CLDC1.1 (JSR139), MobileMedia (JSR135), 3D graphics (JSR184), JTWI 1.0 compliance (JSR185) and CLDC HI 1.1 Java VM optimised for Symbian OS.
* SDIO - support for the SDIO standard gives Symbian OS licensees the option of incorporating SD memory expansion as well as I/O ports that allow phones to acquire new features such as digital TV tuning or fingerprint recognition, without increasing the phone's size or circuit complexity.

LG Electronics licenses Symbian OS
LG Electronics and Symbian Limited announce today that LG Electronics, the world's fifth largest mobile phone manufacturer, has signed an agreement to license Symbian OS as its platform for development of smartphones for 2.5G and 3G networks worldwide. The world leader in CDMA mobile phones, LG Electronics is also a significant supplier of GSM mobile phones to major European network service providers including Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile as well as the USA's largest GSM operator, Cingular. LG Electronics joins all other major mobile phone manufacturers in licensing Symbian OS for use as a platform for the development of data-enabled, advanced mobile phones. Psion sells Symbian shares to Nokia
Nokia today announced that it has started the process of enabling the transfer of Psion's shares in Symbian to Nokia. Symbian, owned by a core group of mobile industry players with its independent governance structure, will continue to pursue its fair and non-discriminatory licensing business of the standards-based Symbian operating system (OS). The purchase, expected be completed over the coming months, will boost Nokia's stake in the venture to 63 percent. The deal is the second in five months at Symbian. Nokia and Psion sealed a deal to buy Motorola's stake in the venture in October.
