In exchange you will get 250 Qt Developer Network points and five lucky developers who respond to the survey will also win a new (not yet announced) Nokia Qt developer device that "is NOT an N900 or a Symbian device", so it must be the N9...

Nokia Oro announced: gold, leather and sapphire
In selected markets, Nokia is launching a new smartphone today – the Nokia Oro. It's a premium brand product that incorporates 18-carat gold plating, a sapphire crystal and leather from one of Scotland's finest Caledonian herds.

It is Symbian-based, with the latest Symbian Anna update. There's pentaband radio connectivity, HSDPA 3G and WiFi. There's a 3.5-inch AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and all the rest. Functionally, it's not so different from other recent smartphones from Nokia like e.g. the C7 or X7, but that's quite a rarity in the "premium phone" business. Normally, you'd have to choose between something that looked posh or offered the latest specs: Nokia Oro offers both.

The Nokia Oro is a device that's clearly intended for someone who doesn't want their mobile device to look the same as other people's. The main markets for this sort of device are the Middle East and Russia, where they have been best-sellers for some time.

Materials Designer Robert Lihou said: "Our aim was to use the best materials for the purpose. It's coated with 18-carat gold which has been made scratch-resistant. The leather is from premium Scottish stock. That's a real sapphire crystal in the home key, which makes it eight times sturdier than glass."

Nokia Oro will start selling in selected countries across the Europe, Eastern Europe, China and the Middle East in Q3 2011. Before local taxes and operator subsidies (neither of which you're likely to be too concerned about if you're a customer for this device), it will cost upwards of EUR 800.

Key features:

* Crafted from 18 carat gold
* Hand wrapped in finest quality leather
* Home key made of sapphire crystal five times as strong as glass
* 3.5" AMOLED screen toughtened glass display, nHD (640x360)
* Special edition of Nokia J Bluetooth headset with 18 carat gold plating
* 8 MPix camera with dual LED flash
* HD 720p video recording
* WLAN 820.11 b/g/n
* HSDPA up to 10.2 Mbps, HSUPA up to 2.0 Mbps
* Bluetooth 3.0
* MicroUSB connector and charging
* USB On-The-Go
* 3.5 mm Nokia AV Connector
* Accelerometer, Compass, NFC
* WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz
* GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
* Symbian Anna
* 8 GB built-in Flash memory
* MicroSD card support up to 32 GB
* Internal memory (disk C) 350 MB
* 117.3 x 57.5 x 12.2 mm
* 132 g
* Colors: Nokia Oro Light, Nokia Oro Dark

New Ovi Store client v2.8 supports update notifications
Ovi Store has announced a new version 2.8 of the Ovi Store client which features application update notifications. Users of S^3 devices will be able to review and apply updates to apps they've downloaded for Store. Ovi Publish is also enabling the following features: extraction of version numbers automatically and exporting to the clients.

After updating to Store 2.8, when the user launches the Store client and signs in, the client automatically checks if any of their downloaded apps have an update available. If there are updates, the user will see a green flag in the corner of your screen by your "Account" tab. Touching the flag will take the user to his account page where he can choose to update "All" or select individual apps.

New Gartner report for Q1 2011
Symbian sales (compared to Q1 2010) up from 24 to 27,5 million units but down from 44,2 to 27,4% in terms of marketshare (and that's simply because others now sell much more), Microsoft down from 6,3% to 3,6% (that's both Windows Phone and Windows Mobile) with Windows Phone sales alone as poor as 1,6 million (i.e. some 1,6% marketshare), only iOS and Android growing, the latter from 9,6% to over 36% (from 5,2 to 36,2 million units). Check out all the details @ Gartner.

MeeGo smartphones from Intel 'early next year', Nokia blamed for the delay
Intel's CEO Paul Otellini has just disclosed that Medfield based smartphones are on their way and the first models will come 'in the first part of 2012'. For the delay, Otellini blamed Nokia whom he called "a wrong partner to have picked". Fortunately, according to Otellini that time will not be wasted completely, as Intel now uses the project they developed together with Nokia as a reference design for their own MeeGo smartphone.

(Final) Qt SDK 1.1 released
Nokia today announced the release of Qt SDK 1.1 offering one integrated development environment for creating both consumer applications on Nokia's Symbian platform as well as for desktop applications such as Windows 7, Mac OSX and Linux. Using the Qt SDK to build their apps, developers have a complete, easy-to-use tool cutting app creation time in half for Nokia touch-screen devices.

Within the release of Qt SDK 1.1, is Qt Quick, a new UI creation kit that benefits both graphic designers and application developers. Designers can create fluid, animated user interfaces with complete project and code editing support for developers to then implement into the overall application. This speeds up the development process further bringing applications to market quicker.

Qt Quick also includes QML, a CSS & JavaScript-like language, that makes UI development for touch screens much easier to implement. In addition to Qt Quick, the Qt SDK 1.1 includes map and navigation features, imaging features for camera and photo gallery access, notification API plug-ins and other enhancements that enable developers to provide access to user content on the device.

With today's release of the Qt SDK 1.1 developers can now target more than 100 million Nokia devices (75 million of which are touch devices) in addition to the 150 million future Symbian smartphones Nokia intends to sell such as the newly announced Nokia E6, Nokia X7 and the Nokia Astound at T-Mobile. It is also possible for Qt app developers to re-use code to speed up the creation of apps on Maemo and the future MeeGo device Nokia will ship this year.

This release makes it possible to publish Qt 4.7 based software (including Qt Quick) made using the SDK to be published to the Ovi Store. The SDK includes Qt 4.7.3 and Qt Mobility 1.1.3.

Developers can download the Qt SDK 1.1 starting today at or
