Skype for Mobile - beta version

| Skype has released a Java client for mobile phones, compatible with S60 and UIQ devices. While the application looks like a "normal" Skype client known from PC or Windows Mobile, it is not a true VoIP solution as it uses the mobile network (rather than the Internet) to make and receive calls. This means that in addition to your Skype credit, you will also be charged by your network operator for a local call.  Quickoffice today announced the availability of Quickoffice Premier 4.0 for UIQ 3 devices. The latest version offers complete editing support for Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, without compromising data integrity or formatting.

UIQ Technology announces winners of UIQ Open '08
|
UIQ Technology today announced the winners of the UIQ Open, a developer competition aimed at finding and showcasing the most innovative, useful and entertaining third-party applications created with the UIQ open software development platform.
The UIQ Open is an application competition where software developers and software companies submit UIQ 3 applications in different categories on the UIQ Developer Community website. The competition ran from October until the end of December 2007. A jury of experts has spent the past few weeks intensively evaluating the submissions submitted from all parts of the globe. The winners of the competition are now appointed. The judging panel selected two winning applications in each of the five categories:

Sony Ericsson announces the G700 and G900 UIQ 3.x based smartphones
|
 Sony Ericsson has just announced two UIQ 3.x based smartphones: the G700 and the G900. Both offer very similar functionality, with the main differences being camera resolution (5 Megapixel on the G900 and 3.2 MPix on the G700) and G900's Wi-Fi connectivity (G700 is WiFi-less). The G900 also includes additional imaging software and has different colour and keyboard layout. Both devices are the smallest UIQ-based phones ever made by Sony Ericsson: they measure 106x49x13 mm and weigh 99 g. Both are equipped with the usual QVGA (262,144 colour TFT, 2.4") touch sensitive screens and, what's new and warmly welcome, they include a d-pad for navigation. They also include an enhanced and improved 'home/standby screen', supporting customizable modules and providing quick access to frequently used functions without forcing the user to go any deeper through the screens and menus.
